Kasper Kjeldgaard — Suspense
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Suspense operates as a functional object, but also as a poetic sculptural configuration with a sense of spatial interaction and relevance. This merging of poetry and function is highlighted by the weaving of stainless steel fibers – the electrical wiring component of a lamp, utilising it as a running line that defines this sculptural composition.

LONG DESCRIPTION:
The composition of Suspense by Danish designer Kasper Kjeldgaard utilises a mix of positive and negative space to redefine the connection of objects to their spatial environment. Although a functional object in its essence, the piece utilises the space underneath its hanging structure as a poetic opportunity. Connecting an LED light source and a curved brass rod, Kjeldgaard has experimented with the application of the lamp’s functional cable as an opportunity to provide the composition’s sculptural framework. Weaving this stainless steel wire cable, Suspense eliminates the need for functional interference, instead transforming the electrical wire into an artistic centerpiece. The work operates both as an abstract sculptural work, and as a more classical piece of design with an architectural relevance to space and form.

Kasper Kjeldgaard
Designer, born 1983.
Driven by a desire to create compositions that make sense unto themselves, Danish designer Kasper Kjeldgaard continuously pursues to broaden the definition of design through his work. In a poetic universe of balance and suspense, Kjeldgaard explores and communicates aspects of nature, such as friction and gravity. In the process of making, every object is given shape on the metal lathe, striving continually to learn new techniques and test new materials. Kjeldgaard’s work has a refined expression with a clear emphasis on craftsmanship. His objects hide nothing but lay their inner workings bare, available for decoding.
