About the project:
An exploration of how a 3D concrete printer can change the way we understand design and crafts, and how excess concrete from the construction of the Copenhagen Metro can be reused. These are the anchor points in the Seam Table. The tabletop in aluminum is kept in place by a body in concrete, mounted on a wooden base.
LONG DESCRIPTION:
The missing seam. The Seam Table is an exploration of how a 3D concrete printer can change the way we understand design and crafts, and how excess concrete from the construction of the Copenhagen Metro can be reused. Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen has set out to test how materials are seamed together and to what extend they can prolong the life of materials in new forms.
Seam consists of a tabletop in Aluminum and a body 3D printed in concrete – all mounted on a wooden base. Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen’s main focus has been to develop the potentials of 3D printing in a design context and use this knowledge to design a piece of furniture. This type of production has previously been used mainly by architects for experimental design in the field of housing construction.
Concrete prints are extremely accurate and therefore a very precise method. By intentionally affecting the machine and the concrete material with disturbance, Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen create intentional inaccuracies that they have embraced in the design. The result of this coincidence can be compared to the work of the human hand and the result has visible – both human and tactile qualities. With the Seam Table, Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen want’s to explore what happens when technological production methods meet the design profession. With an ambition to seam together a new angle on Danish crafts and design.

DESIGNER BIO:
Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen, design studio, founded in 2016
Emil Krøyer: designer, b. 1982
Mads Sætter-Lassen: designer, b. 1988
Emil Krøyer and Mads Sætter-Lassen met at the The Royal Danish Academy, and they have worked together ever since. Continuously exploring different design paths but always with a focus on materials and its qualities. For Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen honesty is key, in their design, they want every little detail out in the open and encourages to make features of functional elements. In their objects they therefore strive to reveal the process and materials, making sure that their products are straightforward and easy to comprehend. The duo has a methodical way of working and investigating their work. Their constant curiosity for the material’s and the design possibilities, keeps them on an ongoing explorative design path.
