Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt — WALL Light

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

WALL Light by designer-maker Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt features a layered composition of tones and transparencies that play with illumination and reflection. Utilising a mixture of transparent and opaque coloured plexiglass in tones of creme, straw, viola and heather, simple geometric forms have been layered atop the light source. Small alterations to colour and form aide in disjointing the simple geometry of the composition. A sense of playfulness invites the user to interact with the piece as it shifts and changes, interacting with natural light and the artificial illumination from within.

DESIGNER BIO:

Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt
Designer and maker, born 1967.

Situated alongside the Marble Church in the centre of Copenhagen, the workshop and studio of designer-maker Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt is a kaleidoscope of colour and transparency. Creating custom made and bespoke lighting and chandeliers, her chosen medium of plexiglass provides her work with a unique interplay of contrasting colour and illumination. While her geometric sensibilities stem from her Danish education, these principles are intertwined with an expression of curiosity and freedom inspired by Italian design. International in style and outlook, her work lovingly references historical architecture and design epochs. A layered approach to composition through asymmetry and contrasting elements results in unique and visually intriguing lighting compositions. Constantly experimenting and exploring, she prototypes at a 1:1 scale, allowing her work to champion elements of reflection, illumination and colour within her balanced yet eclectic approach to form.
