Ane Lykke — Artist and Designer

“I seek to give viewers a subtle exploration into light and space. To be present – to move and explore, and to become aware that the experience of my light-works is kaleidoscopic – it corresponds to the place in which one is viewing.”

About:

The body of work of Danish artist and designer Ane Lykke reflects a deep appreciation and inquisition of the experiential qualities of fleeting moments spent within nature and the urban environment. Re-interpreting these snapshots in time, Lykke translates her experiences into sensorial rich spaces and objects that explore the transformative qualities of light, material and the environment alongside movement, inviting individuals to explore her work through interaction and their own perception of space and light. Her Copenhagen based studio allows Lykke to shift between digital and physical modelling tools, with each project slowly built up from two dimensions into immersive spatial objects – Lykke constantly refines her forms, calibrating how they resonate with both space and light until both elements are united. Her focus on two contrasting mediums – physical materials such as wood, metal and glass, and the ethereal qualities of light and illumination, results in work with an imbued duality. The inherent texture and depth of natural materials provide a strong physical presence, while light adds a dynamic and ephemeral quality. Together they allow her objects and installations to interpret the relationship between the tangible and intangible, expressed through immersive and experiential work that is constantly shifting and moving in union with its audience. By heightening the individuals own perception of the contrasting elements present within her work, Ane Lykke’s creations foster a lasting dialogue with both the viewer and the physical environments in which they reside.
