Louise Hindsgavl — Artist

“My pieces become a twist on the classic porcelain figures. The well established ceases to exist, their stories turned upside down.”

About:

The work of artist Louise Hindgavl takes a centuries old tradition and turns it on its head. From her Copenhagen based studio, clay and porcelain have become her tool to re-shape the traditions of harmless figurines into something more transparent and truthful. Working within a craft tradition representative of embellishment and an idolised world, her figurines often incorporate violence – displaying a world that contains anger, doubt, confusion, selfishness and a lack of morality. While her work is drawn into the design community through her precise approach to her craft, the strong narrative base of her practice translates the world around her, sparking conversations and highlighting the contemporary issues of today.
