Mette Schelde — Architect and Designer

“For me, pieces of furniture and lighting are small fragments of architecture. You could say that the architecture is the frame and that furniture and lighting make up the landscape within.”

About:

Mette Schelde presents experimental works grounded by an overarching functionality. Her Aarhus-based studio operates across the fields of furniture, lighting design and architecture. Her designs are functional and made of simple constructions in a sculptural universe, combining traditional materials such as wood, glass and metal with sensual functions created to be used. Through simple lines and compositions, she explores new methods and technologies that point both back and forward in a mixture of tradition and renewal. The process takes place across disciplines of sketching, building and testing – driven by intuition and her written manifesto. A background in architecture is evident throughout the design process, where the interaction between the object, the context and the human carries great importance within each project.
